Russell Advances to State Championship
On October 22, the Running Redskins traveled to Oglethorpe County High School to compete in the Region 8-AA Cross Country Championship. A light morning shower and cold front moving through finally brought above average temperatures down to normal, providing great conditions for racing and spectating.
The HS girls were scheduled to start at 4:30, but were delayed by the timing system’s computer crash. After spending a nerve wracking 30 minutes on the start line, Sophomore Julia Russell led the Redskins, patiently following 6-7 in the lead pack. One by one, she worked up to 3rd place, only loosing one spot to finish the day in 4th. With the top six advancing to the State Championship in Carrollton on November 2nd, Julia was ecstatic. Freshman Fantasia Hopkins was the Redskins 2nd runner in with a Seasons Best time, improving by over one minute.
