Girls Junior Varsity Softball, Girls Varsity Softball · Winning Tradition: Softball Season Preview

The Social Circle Softball Program has experienced a huge amount of success over the past few years and capped it off by winning a GHSA AA State Championship last Fall.   The momentum does not stop there as our program looks to reload with young talent and lean on the experience of returning players. This week Social Circle Athletics catches up with Lady Redskins’ Softball Head Coach Audra Thomas to get an inside look at this upcoming season.
Coach Thomas gives fielding instruction to players at practice.
After a scrimmage and an opening tournament, what have you learned about your team from those experiences?
AT: We are young but strong.  Our growth is amazing from one game to the next.  Just need to focus and learn from mistakes.
What are the strengths of this year’s team?
AT: They are grinders.  They work extremely hard and are coachable.
What are some of the challenges you anticipate this season?
AT: Learning the game as we are a young junior class.  We have no seniors and our Juniors were not not on the field 100% of the time last year.
Any one team you are looking forward to?
AT: Banks as usual. I think Union will be a challenge as well.
Our softball alumni base is very strong with the annual softball game being one of its highlights.  What do you contribute the continued support from our alumni?
AT: I think that the alumni is learning how much we appreciate the time and effort they gave this program.  This program has been strong due to great talents throughout the years, and I hope to continue increasing alumni activities in the future.
The Casino Night / Steak Dinner was a huge success.  Any thoughts on it and will there be a 2nd?
AT: Of course!!! We learned a lot and are ready to do it again with some neat improvements.  We appreciate our administration for supporting the event and our program in general.
Lady Redskins Breakdown:

Returning starters/position: Aubrey Garrett – Pitcher and 1st base, Emma Swider – 1st team all state centerfielder, Tara Poole-short stop and 2nd baseman, Alexa Wykoff- short stop, Savannah Thomason- outfield, Cheyenne Head- outfield, Ana Allen- catcher, Morgan Chambers- Pitcher.

Notable starters / Impact Players: Aubrey Garrett, Emma Swider, Alexa Wykoff and Tara Poole have the most starting experience and will be our leaders in that sense but Ana Allen provides leadership in mentality and work ethic.
New players to program and their position:  Our Freshman class is strong with so many new editions Kaylee Vaughn, Madalyn Spinks, Cara Mayfield, Halie Richardson, Macy Langley.  Gracie Jones has broken into the starting lineup as well joining us as a sophomore from the JV program last year.
Keys to success:  WORK!!!  We have to mature and gain softball IQ to make up for our lack of experience.  They are more than capable.
The Lady Redskins are in action this week at Redskin Stadium Wednesday against Loganville (7pm) and Thursday against Newton (6pm).
